Allan and Jean Millar Centre (Whitecourt Woodlands Recreation Centre)

If you could build your dream recreation centre, what would it look like? For the citizens of Whitecourt, the dream included:

  • An indoor soccer pitch and field-house
  • An aquatic centre with a 25m lap pool, leisure pools & waterslide, hot tub, steam room, change rooms, administration as well as a public viewing area
  • Offices for Community Services
  • Child play/child mind areas
  • Fitness and running track
  • Squash courts

As with most recreational facilities, the aquatic centre was the driving force behind the schedule's critical path, and was the most expensive component of the building. Considerable time and resources were spent to ensure best value for the Town of Whitecourt on the cornerstone of their building. Through careful evaluation of different pool systems, it was determined that a prefabricated stainless steel pool construction would be the most effective use of available labour and scheduled time.

Several design and constructability meetings were held to ensure that all the potential issues were resolved prior to the pool panels arriving on site, resulting in a successful installation.
