Burnaby Mountain Secondary School
The first project undertaken by The Learning Consortium was the Burnaby Mountain Secondary School, a 1500-1875 student, 161460 ft2 complex near the Lougheed Highway and Gaglardi Way intersection in Burnaby, BC. Working closely with the Burnaby School District, the City of Burnaby, community and environmental groups, the school's development plan included the enhancement of nearby Stoney Creek. In addition to incorporating an advanced learning technology and communications infrastructure, the structure utilizes sustainable design principals to reduce long term operating costs. A community partnership with the Burnaby Parks Board will enable more effective utilization of the facility's expanded gymnasium and field components. The project was delivered under an integrated management, fast tracked design build format in order to guarantee budget compliance with the Ministry of Education's reduced funding formula for high schools in the province, and enabled occupancy by the fall of 1999.
