Simon Fraser University
TASC 1 & 2
This 110,000 ft2 facility was built on time and on budget with minimum impact to the campus community. Including both a wet and dry laboratory, a unique feature of this project is the centered atrium's ability to act as a return air plenum, which manages the flow of noxious gases between labs. TASC 1 has strong concrete architectural finishes with polished acid etched concrete floors; a notable feature.
The primary purpose of the TASC 2 building is to provide wet and dry laboratories with support office space. In addition to providing program teaching space, the TASC 2 building provides essential pedestrian linkages between the South Campus Road and five other campus buildings.
Lee Gavel, campus planning and development director, says TASC2 presents a new public face for SFU. "The building is now our major southern entrance," he says. "It has nice social spaces for faculty and students to meet and talk."
